Division by 5

There is an easy way to find the quotient of a number when divided by 5.

The method is so easy and so fast, that next time when you need to divide a number by 5, you will probably use it instead of a calculator.

Here below is the procedure in 2 steps. It is later illustrated with an example.

• Step a: Multiply the given number by 2.
• Step b: Then divide the result above by 10.

That will be the final result.

Divide 850 by 5:
Step a: 850 x 2 = 1700
Step b: 1700 ÷ 10 = 170

Result is then: 170

Divide 420 by 5:
Step a: 420 x 2 = 840
Step b: 840 ÷ 10 = 84

Result is then: 84
