Multiplication by 5

There is an easy way to find the product of a number when multiplied by 5.

The method is so easy and so fast, that next time when you need to multiply a number by 5, you will probably use it instead of a calculator.

Here below is the procedure in 2 steps. It is later illustrated with an example.

• Step a: Divide the given number by 2.
• Step b: Then multiply the result above by 10.

That will be the final result.

Multiply 85 by 5:
Step a: 85 ÷ 2 = 42.5
Step b: 42.5 x 10 = 425

Result is then: 425

Multiply 420 by 5:
Step a: 420 ÷ 2 = 210
Step b: 210 x 10 = 2100

Result is then: 2100
